About Chigong ('Kikoh' in Japanese)

Everything has 'life energy' in it. We call this energy, 'ki' (or 'chi' in Chinese). It flows through us living creatures like our blood or neurological activity. A healthy body has good flow (and suppleness), while ill health or injury entails blocked or stagnated flow (and rigidity). In Japanese, the word for "sick" is 'byo-ki', which translates to "ill energy" - so fundamentally, illness was conceived not only to be a physical thing but relevant to one's energy.

'Kikoh' is a way to cultivate good energy flow, notice all the ways we impede our energy flow, and improve energy flow when there is an external circumstance e.g., illness, physical injury, mental hurt, tendency, or reaction. We all have a natural healing tendency. 'Kikoh' is a way to enhance this tendency. Pain is often our energy "trying" to get us back the way things should be.

As we learn how we affect our energy flow, intentionally or not, we can improve our physical and mental health regardless of being in class or doing a specific exercise, by an enhanced perception of ourselves and how we work.

Sometimes we do partner work in 'kikoh' practice. This easily expands to the ability to help others when they are sick or injured. Some students come to 'kikoh' practice with the aim of helping a loved one at home.

If you feel you need treatment by a 'kikoh' master, please ask about our very own Mayumi Hasegawa. Website: https://mayumido.wordpress.com/
Sunday Series instructor Daniel has been trained by Mayumi over the past 4 years.
